Some days, we just have to dance around the living room when things get hairy.
Reflecting on some simple pleasures from the week.
:: the butterflies (and hummingbirds) that have been visiting our back yard lately.

:: quick 20-minute walks, for a peaceful end to my day. They’re about all I’ve been able to fit in lately due to a pretty busy week, but they are wonderful.
:: sunflowers and vegetables from our garden. The peaches are from the farmer’s market, where I was talked into buying $12 worth of peaches. Guess what we’re doing this afternoon?

:: catching up with a dear, although faraway, friend.
:: some fresh decorating for the kitchen area. Most of what you see here was either free or found yardsaling or thrifting.

:: sweet toddler boys learning to talk.

:: dinner at a friend’s house tomorrow night, in which I will be bringing peaches (surprise!) for dessert.
:: lovely 80-degree days that allow much outdoor play, thus allowing sleepy babes at bedtime.
:: a morning to myself, for thrifting and sewing (pictures soon, I promise!)
Hope everyone has a relaxing, wonderful weekend!
Scott has been helping the children learn the Apostle’s Creed for the past few months. And, yesterday at the store, we were shopping for a baby shower card and there was a crude humor card with a drawing of two bare back-ends. They were, of course, fascinated. Out of all the cards on the shelf to notice, we got excited about this one.
Read on and you’ll see how these two things are related.
Scott (finishing up the apostle’s creed): And the life everlasting!
Charlotte: And the life everlasting!
Scott: Jesus is our life, our forgiveness, and our lord, isn’t he?
Charlotte: One time we saw some cards that had some bottoms on them. (pause) Those were for some people who are not modest, not like us.
Scott: That’s right, love, God wants us to be modest.
Charlotte: Like Adam and Eve.
We made these fabulous cookies, after finding a great recipe here at Salt and Chocolate. (Hi Mary Beth!) They are really, really good. Really. Please note that she reminds us they are not low-fat. Ahem. But such a good treat.

So, the skirt picture I promised. I got this skirt several years ago from a friend who had brought gifts home from a trip to France. I loved, loved, loved it but it never fit just how I envisioned. Couldn’t ever figure out what was wrong with it, so it just sat in my closet for years. Years, folks. Last week I set aside some time, got out my sewing machine and some scissors, and went to work. After an hour of work, ta-da! Skirt remade.

One note on sewing clothing: the phrase “I’m sure this will go fine if I don’t pin it first!” should never enter your vocabulary.

The girls and I had a little photo-shoot session. I am always looking for places in the house that provide the perfect lighting for pictures.

They wanted to take pictures too, so here is Ivy’s work.

The Bob Book Reading Club is in full swing around here. It’s the most exciting part of our day sometimes, and the girls are getting more into the habit of grabbing a couple during some down time and practicing on their own. I have waited a long time for this, and worked many hours on reading, reading, reading with them to see this picture:

Here is a family photo that Mom took last weekend, one which I completely forgot to include until now. Hope everyone’s having a good week!

Anyone remember this song? I do. I watched it the most during snack time, in the third grade. Mom always packed one of my favorite snacks…crackers and peanut butter. Yum.
The children love this show now, and it’s a treat to watch it. These guys are great (they live near us), and they apparently love LeVar Burton.
We’ve been getting over a stomach bug this week.

But things are looking up. We’ve seen worse sickness make its way through our house before, so this one wasn’t too bad.

In happier news, Grampa and Gramma came to visit last weekend! And we had a really wonderful time.
There was giggling and snuggling,

piano playing,

and some handy-man work to do. Asher made sure Grampa got it all together okay.

We all ventured out to see some fireworks on Saturday night, although storms threatened the western skies. We managed to get some ice cream,

but by the time we got to the park to see the show, it was thundering and getting pretty dark. We paused long enough to get all set up, take everyone potty, spray everyone down with bug spray, get pictures of the girls with their friend Natalie,

and then we packed up and took off for the car. Sigh. Maybe next year we can catch some! We were glad for the rain.
In crafty news, I have been experimenting more with appliqueing. I pulled out a couple of plain Asher tshirts and some shapes I have, and gave it a whirl.

They turned out okay, and now I am keeping an eye out for fabrics that will work for these kinds of projects.

Here is a special offer, just for you! I really would like to practice appliqueing, but you can only wear so many plain-colored tshirts with shapes on them. If some of you would like some shirts done similarly for one of your children, then leave a note in the comments with approximate size information. I can pick a few wee people to do these for, and I have more shapes that I’d like to try. Thanks!
Been super muggy here the past few days, but we’ve gotten some good thunderstorms out of the deal so that is nice! We made some yogurt-and-fruit popsicles that are all frozen and ready to go,

and are enjoying puddle-splashing after the storms pass.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. I’m off to kick up my feet, finish a skirt (pictures soon, if it turns out), maybe eat a yogurt popsicle, and think about a hot date I have on Saturday night! All to celebrate turning 30! Wheee!

Our garden is finally giving back a little. Seems like things have grown really slowly this year, but hey. We’ll take what we can get.
We harvested our first tomato, and another one is ready to pick tomorrow.

I apologize for these terrible vegetable photos. I am wishing for one of these, but I need to make do with what we have in the way of digital cameras right now.

Here is a lovely squash flower, but no squash yet. Any minute now, one’ll pop out. I just know it!

Remember these from last year? Scott saved some seeds and we are enjoying them again this year. They are almost exploding into their sunflowery wonderfulness.

Here is another delicious treat I found.

The past few days have also afforded me the time to make a couple of quilts, to get ready for some new babies that are coming soon. This one is for a little girl who’ll make a grand appearance at the end of September. On a side note, I don’t think her Mommy reads this blog, which is why I am posting pictures of it. (Hi Stacey! If you are reading this, look away!)

Love the fabrics on this one. Thanks Mom for supplying the Moda fabrics recently…the colors and patterns are great, aren’t they?

This little quilt is for a handsome guy who we will meet in early September. I do know that his mommy reads this website, so the pictures will be hidden. So, if your name is beautiful-sweet-wise-humble-hasafabulousaccent-Tracy, you may not click here. Or here. (Hi Tracy!)
