Holly Springs has a little parade for Christmas each year, and we went to see it. Braved the cold, and stood with the crowds for awhile to watch.

The horses were right next to us for quite awhile, which was nice, but here were the favorites of the parade:

Asher stood up and did a little dance when the band came by;

these tiny race cars were a hit (not literally, although they drove awfully close and fast to the children);

and of course Mommy and the girls loved the dancers. I’m sure they had to keep moving around to keep warm…some of them looked so cold!

and of course, all the fire engines, with the sirens and the horns and all the lights, got everyone all excited!
A couple of weeks ago I took some pictures of our friends, Steve and Tracy, and their handsome little baby. It was fun to practice my skillz at photography, although they are a little rusty.

Isn’t he just one of the cutest babies? Those chins! Yummy.
Here are some outtakes from our trying-to-get-a-normal-Christmas-picture session:

In other exciting news, Ivy has kind of taken off with reading lately. Something seems to have clicked, and there is much book reading going on around here, of the Dick and Jane variety. I caught some of it on video.
Here was the sunrise view from our house this morning. Beautiful! Have a wonderfully merry Christmas, everyone!

Bit different around here, eh? I needed something fresh and new for inspiration. I’ll also be working to update the recent reads in the sidebar, too. I promise we don’t read the same 4 books over and over.
So, Thanksgiving was great! Scott’s family came to visit, and the house was full and happy and noisy and there was lots of food and gaming (not the computer variety). There was also lots of reading together,

snuggling to keep warm and cozy,

hugs,

more games,

playing,

and a fire (again with the keeping warm).

We had a really nice time with the Moonens! (Of course we miss you all and can’t wait to see everyone again soon!)
The girls got some Special Thanksgiving Fancy Braids that we were all excited about,

and I made a desperate attempt at a children-only Christmas picture. Yeah. Didn’t work.

Asher has not been very excited with picture-taking lately. All to go along with the turning 2 thing, I assume.

But he’s really such a cutie, isn’t he? Gah! Those eyelashes!

In other news, I am now handy with a power sander. I scored this bookcase at a yardsale over the summer for $5, and have wanted to repaint it ever since I brought it home. I also wanted to try backing it with fabric, and after becoming a little nervous about what fabric to choose, I found the perfect thing and ran home with it. What do ya think?

Please excuse the fuzziness. My photography skillz are lacking lately, yo. Either that or we need a new digital camera. (Just kidding! Hi Honey!) Anyway, I am pleased with how the bookcase turned out. More book storage is always a helpful addition.
Christmas is soon! Everyone ready? I think we are about there…and next comes the wrapping of the gifts. Best to start early, right?
