Ivy’s first piano recital went really, really well. We are so proud of her; this learning-the-piano business has proven to be very hard work, but very worth the effort.

Ivy loves her piano teacher (we do too!)

Friends of ours videotaped the performance:
And, Charlotte’s quilt is officially finished! (Happy clapping and giddy dancing ensue.)

The princess is pleased!

We tried our first “beach-for-a-day” outing on Monday, and oh boy. Minus the sunburn, we had a really nice time. The dear friends we went with made the day even better. (Hi Anne!)

The big kids played right in the waves for most of the time.

I was so surprised at my brave girls begging to go farther and farther out into the water. Beach trips seem to change so much from year to year: there are very cute things about a baby in a swimsuit, but it is so nice when they’re older and more independent.

The wee folk were happy to swish around in the sand for the afternoon, touching the ocean with their toes and clinging to the daddies when it was time to venture into the water.
A fun day that we’re thinking we’ll try again in the near future!
Spent the weekend at my parents’, just outside of Augusta, way down in Georgia. What a beautiful town and area! They have some great parks, on the Savannah River,

next to some gorgeous houses…

(my absolute favorite)
We had a good time, just hangin’ out,

picking blackberries,

ridin’ the tractor,

playing in the little kid pool,

sending Dad off to the Military Ball,

and some other fun stuff that I can’t remember right now. The girls stayed down with Mom and Dad for a few days by themselves, for more hugs, kisses, and general silliness. We miss them!

(most photo credits: my Mom. hi Mom! great job with the pictures!)
We’re thinking it’ll be a good summer:

(first tomato from the garden)

(not from our garden, but I just couldn’t resist a picture)

(farmer’s market goodies. wooden bowl: 50 cents from a yard sale)

(picking our first harvest of blueberries)

(and reading,

reading,

reading. yes, that is a bicycle helmet. with motorcycles on it, of course.)

Nine years ago today, in a little church that sat on top of a hill, we made our promises and so began a life together. With our shiny new wedding rings, fresh college degrees, and a little apartment waiting for us, we moved south and started to learn about what it meant to be husband and wife.
I had no idea he would be more wonderful than I deserved or imagined, nor was I fully aware of how God would use every kind of circumstance in our life to bring us closer to each other. And I can’t help but know that we’ve only just begun.
Grow old along with me!
The best is yet to be,
The last of life, for which the first was made:
Our times are in His hand
Who saith “A whole I planned,
Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!”
