A week at the beach with friends.

17 adults, 18 children.

A 10-bedroom house.

Splashing in the waves,

building forts in the sand,

drinking coffee and reading in the shade,

We’ve had beautiful weather this week, but it looks like fall is here come this weekend.

We’ll enjoy our last day of sunshine as much as we can, though.

There sure were some pretty houses in our little neighborhood where we stayed this year (Topsail Beach). I liked this one, which we later learned was used for the interior shots for Nights in Rodanthe.

Pretty, huh?

This is its neighbor across the street.

They had a little secret, overgrown path to a forgotten gazebo in their common side yards.

I’ll take one, please.
The summer is moving right along. Can you believe July is over and done with?

Our good friend “Uncle” George came to visit from Texas for a few days.

Asher had a good time pickin’ away while George played us some tunes on his banjo.

And oh boy, it’s hot.

We’re only really able to go outside in the late evenings or early mornings, and even then only for a few minutes.

(a cookie, a book, and a swing. can it get any better?)

Hi pretty baby!

I’ve also discovered that Annie looks really cute in this bonnet I made for her.

I found the pattern from this Etsy store, littlebettydesigns, and it was probably one of the most well-written, easiest-to-follow patterns I have ever seen from an Etsy shop. Highly recommended.

So easy, in fact, that I made one for a friend’s baby and it turned out just as delicious.

So other than all that, we’re just hanging out around here. Trying to keep cool, and waiting for rain and something less than 100 degrees during the day.

Turning the living room into a tent, bringing out all the craft supplies, watching a few movies, and generally making a big mess of things.

I have a feeling I’ll miss these days someday.
Happy Father’s Day to three wonderful men I know.

Scott,

my dad,

my father-in-law.
We all love you so much!!
My verygoodfriend Emily came over for the afternoon last week.

And, not only did she vacuum my floors, clean my bathroom, and cook dinner for us,

she let me take pictures of her babies!

We had little bugs crawling around the house, and I just couldn’t resist pulling out the camera.

We drove for 2 days last week, to go way up North to see extended family (on my side).

We ate lots of ice cream

(it was pretty hot),

played on the World’s Largest Slip-n-Slide,

shot potatoes across the river,

took rides behind the tractor mower,

hugged a great-grandma Jane,

and smothered a sweet baby girl with kisses.

We had a pretty great time, and it was so nice to spend time with family we don’t see very often!

Although our family has been pretty busy over the past several weeks, we have had some pretty wonderful times with family members that we don’t get to see very often.

Aunt Abby and Aunt Mary (aka “Ant Aby” and “Ant Marry” by my little phonetic spellers) came to visit for a couple of days. So nice to spend time with them…and as usual, I wish I’d taken more pictures!

We had a chance to spend a day with the Maryland gang, too, which was really nice. This is another group of people that we don’t get to see very often. The cousins had a pretty fun day together…

Raise your hand if you know how hard it is to get a picture of six children (six and under).

One more try….

Yay!
It was so nice to spend time enjoying the day together…Judi’s sister lives in Richmond, which is almost halfway between us. They have a lovely home that is always welcoming and comfortable.

Complete with a gigantic rope swing. (oh boy)

And a trampoline!

These are our sweet niece and nephew. They just about match Charlotte and Asher in age, and it was pretty fun to see the cousins all get to know one another better during the day.

We were all happy to get to know the newest member of the family….

Sweet, sweet girl. Isn’t she beautiful?

Next up: fresh spring dresses for my girls, sewn by their Mama. Hasn’t the weather taken a turn for the best? We are all so happy to be outside again.
